ANGELO KING AUDITORIUM – It was another night to remember as the Sportsfest weekend punctuated itself Friday night, September 5, with a worthy celebration of one of the most awaited annual events for all Lukan Medical Students.
The auditorium was graced with the presence of various members of the St. Luke’s College of Medicine family, from the newly inducted first years to the clerks and interns fresh from duty in the hospital.
Also present are the members of the staff and faculty who willingly partook in this week’s events.
Mr. and Ms. Lukan
In line with the traditional way of closing the Sportsfest, the pageant for Mr. and Ms. Lukan was held.
Hosts CJ Almazan and Lily Torreña gave life to the party as they entertained the crowd with their jokes and antics on the stage.
The theme for this year’s pageant is celebrity singers.
Contestants for this year’s pageant are as follows: Audrey Prieto and Julienne Yarra from the first years as Katy Perry and Jason Mraz, Katrina Tinoco and Adrian Reyes from the second years as Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine, and Zabrina Cua and Liandro Dolojan from the third years as Sarah Geronimo and Gary Valenciano.
The representatives showed off the fruits of their week-long, post-exam labor to give glory to their respective batches.
Audrey Prieto and Julienne Yarra from the first years entertained the crowd with a comical skit loosely based from the movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith, with Ms. Prieto impressing with her singing voice.
Next are the stunning dance number from Katrina Tinoco and song performance from Adrian Reyes, pumping up their batchmates who participated in the talent portion by acting as fans to a simulated Aguilera and Levine concert.
Finally capping the talent portion is a song and dance number from Zabrina Cua and Liandro Dolojan in which the third years also participated, as they move it while Ms. Cua sings one of Sarah G’s tunes.
Dolojan, however, single-handedly brought the house down with his martial arts skills as he performed his moves on the stage in a performance that struck awe in the audience that was left mesmerized and cheering for him.
The battle for Mr. Lukan was by then a given, and in addition to a worthy answer to the question “What song by the singer you represent do you identify the most?”, Mr. Dolojan bagged the crown at the end of the evening.
The race was tighter for gaining the title of Ms. Lukan, as Audrey Prieto and Katrina Tinoco each garnered two minor awards before the announcement of the major winners.
However, the natural charm of the first year batch representative is enough to win the hearts of the judges as Audrey “J.Joe” Prieto was crowned as this year’s Ms. Lukan.
Sports Events
The most awaited part of the evening however came at the end as Anna Robles from the Athletics Guild announced this year’s winners for each minor and major sports event.
For the minor games champions, Dodgeball, Patintero, Chess, and Amazing Race went to the Second Years, while Jackstone, Monopoly Deal, and DoTA went to the First Years, and Chinese Garter went to the Third Years.
The tablet games resulted to a three-way tie between the first to third years. CiFaSt doesn’t have participants for the tablet games.
For the major games championships, table tennis, badminton, and football went to the second years, men’s volleyball went to the first years, men’s basketball and women’s basketball to the CiFaSt-Alumni, and bowling and ultimate frisbee went to the third years.
For the cheerdance, the third years made their final dance as part of the competition count as they bagged this year’s championship.
Overall Championship
Before announcing the winners, Dean Brigido Carandang said a few words to the student body.
“This might be the best team building activity for the college”, he said amid nods of agreement from the staff and the students alike.
“I’m glad to see that we’re not just molding future doctors, but a host of talented individuals”, he added, echoing the college’s advocacy for multi-dimensional development of its students.
Athletics Guild president Liandro Dolojan then announced the overall champions.
Garnering 3rd runner up is CiFaSt-Alumni.
2nd runner up is Batch 2019, the first years.
1st runner up is Batch 2017, the third years.
And Batch 2018, the second years, garnering the overall championship for Sportsfest 2014.
A much deserved victory party with free food and liquor then followed the evening’s events. [x]
