AMORANTO SPORTS COMPLEX – A line-up of Ang, Ayuson, Surio, Velasquez, Villangca, Naraval, Caballes, Yarra, Agbon, Chug and Tagaylo for the First Years, and Simando, Kwan, Villangca, Bargas, Antonio, Teves, Cordova and Aragones for the Second Years battled it off in volleyball during the fifth day of the College Sportsfest, Wednesday.
The match did not last long amid a valiant effort from the second years to control the match as the first and second sets were dominated by the First Years, with respective scores of 25-19 and 25-18.
The volleyball match between the First Years and CIFAST followed.
It was a close fight for the first set, points chasing each other from 19-19, 20-20, until the First Years won the first set with a score of 26-24; the second set also bagged by the First Years to a final score of 25-16, paving the way to a slot to fight for championship.
Basketball: Third years vs. Second years
The Third years started their game smoothly by having minimal turnovers and a very good defense against the second years.
Having the favor on the first 2 quarters, the third years made their way to get a 5-point lead and ending the first half of the game with a score of 9-14, in favour of the third years.
This did not block the way of the second years to strive harder by acing their way throughout the third quarter with a combination of good defense and rebounds, allowing them to flip the tables, finishing the quarter with a score with a 23-18 lead.
The intensity of the game between the two teams went higher when the second years were able to get their consecutive points in the last quarter.
On the defense, the third years were able to notch up and managed a few assists.
However, the momentum of the second years proved to be too much as the final buzzer rang with a 32-24 score for the second years.
