[ANGELO KING AUDITORIUM, SLCM]- House Helios won this year’s Sing Off held last July 28, 2014, 5:30-7:00 in the evening.
Sing Off was the second game of houses for this year, hosted by Cheska Malubay and Junelle Dumangon, who welcomed the five different houses namely Helios (yellow), Bao Sheng Da Di (blue), Fufluns (green), Eir (orange), and Brigid (red).
Modifications were made from the past game rules: a particular category of song was flashed on stage together with a mobile number, then the houses raced in calling the number and the first connected to the line got the chance to sing a song that falls under the category.
Additional rules were: one-point deduction for a team who failed to sing a song described by the category within ten seconds, and all members of the team had to sing in order for them to gain the point.
In an interview with Junelle Dumangon, he said they modified the game from last year's running to the microphone which led to several injuries to a much less injurious and much more innovative dialing of mobile numbers.
In addition, last year's was done only in the lobby of the auditorium compared to this year's inside the auditorium itself.
The game was made even more thrilling when every house was in an "organized chaos" as they dialed the numbers flashed on screen in order to have the chance to get the microphone.
House Fufluns led the competition during the first half with a total score of 4 points, followed by Helios and Bao Sheng Da Di, both with scores of 2 points, followed by Eir and Brigid, with 1 point each.
Twenty categories were flashed during the whole competition which eventually led to a tie-breaker round between houses Helios and Bao Sheng Da Di with each house having 7 points.
The tie-breaker was done with a twist wherein the two teams had to pick a representative, who first sat at the backmost part of the auditorium and then at the count of three, after a category was flashed on stage, ran towards the microphone held by Arjo de Castro, SC President.
The faster runner proved to be from house Helios which made them answer the category, which was "a song sung solo by the Grand Winner of the The Voice Kids," and their singing of "Call me Maybe" made them champion.
House Bao Sheng Dadi ranked as the runner up, followed by House Fufluns on the third spot, house Eir on the fourth, and house Brigid on the fifth spot.
"It was indeed a fun activity to bond with our schoolmates and also to relieve the stress away from the all the acads stuff", said Faith Abegail Co, a freshman.
"Yes, it was a success! After all, the SC organizes activities for you [Lukans] guys, to bond you and to have a release after all [academic activities], like block exams, in a fun way that still preserves the Lukan brand," Cheska Malubay said in an interview.
"Many more activities to look forward to!" she added. [x]
