Among the many innovations in its academic program, St. Luke’s College of Medicine – William H. Quasha Memorial further stands apart with its unique Total Scholarship award. The Total Scholarship, granted after the first year, provides three outstanding students full scholarships until they graduate, requiring only the minimum passing grade each year.
During the Opening Ceremony on the 4th June 2013, the College’s Dean, Dr. Brigido Carandang Jr., revealed that the 3 awards had been renamed in honor of three members of the Board of Trustees of the SLCM-WHQM. The award now also comes with the prestigious Aesculapious statuette and a P30, 000.00 monetary incentive – thanks to the generous contribution of Mr. Teddy KingSu, a member of the Board of Trustees of the SLCM-WHQM. The Total Scholarship has been previously granted to 6 students: 3 students each from Batch 2014 and Batch 2015. SLCM hoped that these scholars, freed from the pressure of maintaining a certain grade, would be able to fully immerse and enjoy themselves in their pursuit of the Medicine Proper program.
For Batch 2016, The Jose Ledesma Scholarship for Academic Excellence was granted to Jake Bryan Cortez, the Robert Kuan Scholarship for Leadership to Aliana Jimenez, and the Bishop Manuel Lumpias Scholarship for Passion and Spirit to Steve Marlo Cambe. Each was called to the stage and accompanied by their loved ones as they accepted their awards and had their pictures taken with the Board of Trustees. They were cheered enthusiastically by the SLCM student body and faculty as their names were announced and as they received their awards.
We wish to congratulate Mr. Cortez, Ms. Jimenez, and Mr. Cambe for their achievement. As the Total Scholars count rises to 9, SLCM hopes that the student body is further inspired to pursue excellence. [x]
